Division of Archaeology
 
This department is responsible for identifying, preserving and educating the public about Bahamian archaeological resources. The Division conducts and supervises the conduct of surveys and excavations throughout the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, and publishes information on the country’s archaeological resources.  The Division also operates an artifact conservation laboratory for metal artifacts at the Advanced Guardhouse of the Fort Charlotte Complex. The unit is also in the process of establishing a series of underwater Archaeological Preserves. The administration of the Bahamas Master Site Plan, used to record historical and archaeological resources is also a part of the responsibility of this unit.
